One of my biggest pet peeves is needy ass adults who crave motivation. UGH. Like seriously, I’m not here to motivate you. Let me break this down a bit.
What do you really want
The world we live in today doesn’t value hard work and certainly doesn’t value the process or the journey towards completing a goal. In my eyes, life if a journey. Entrepreneurship is a journey. One that actually takes work. I find that many adults are looking for the secret sauce when the secret is that you have to put in the work. You have to want it bad enough to get good at doing the same things over and over again without getting bored.
I know what you’re thinking. You think I’m still holding out on you. You think that somewhere in this post I’m going to give you some magical piece of information you didn’t know before. Or I’m going to say something spectacular that has you jumping from your seat and in an AH HA! Moment. But I can assure you, you will be disappointed.
Mastering the Fundamentals
The key really is doing the same thing over and over again. To be successful, you must master the basics. Master the fundamentals. Not just be good at the basics, but master them. Think Mr. Miyagi. Wax on. Wax off. ALL. DAY. LONG. That lesson was so powerful and most of us missed it.
If you are beginning to have a tinge of guilt here, then you probably know you are one of those folks who start things and doesn’t complete them. I was one of those types too. I completely empathize. So lean in and let me tell you why you struggle to complete your goals.
YOU ARE OUT OF ALIGNMENT
That’s right. Your goals have no real alignment with your purpose. So when the going gets tough, as is the typical way with business, you find yourself needing an extra push. Matter of fact, you may find yourself in need of a push every time a new endeavor begins to feel a bit (dare I say) mundane. And this causes you to seek motivation or drop that goal for something new and exciting.
Well, let me tell it to you again. I’m not here to motivate you. In the words of Anthony Robbins, you need to find what pulls you! What wakes you out of your sleep in the morning and gets you excited to start your day. What keeps you up past midnight? Where does “work” and life merge for you?
Find what moves you
I encourage you to find that purpose. Find that passion that can keep you going when the going gets mundane. In the meantime, don’t look for me to motivate you. I’m here to help. I’m here to be a support, provide resources, give advice, and even be a sounding board. But I’m not here to motivate you. Sorry. Not Sorry.
